Dear Parents/Carers,
At the end of Module 6, as part of our Cultural Capital Week, we have spaces for 25 Year 8 students to participate in a week-long residential trip to Kingswood Activity Centre. Our Cultural Capital Days and Week (at the end of each academic year) are a true highlight of our Academy calendar. These days offer students experiences and the chance to participate in activities outside of the classroom. Cultural Capital week and this residential will take place from 15th July to 19th July 2024.
Kingswood, Isle of Wight, has 40 years experience in managing and leading activities and events. It is a complete indoor and outdoor education facility and will provide an educational and enjoyable week where students will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities. There are significant benefits to be had from a residential visit. It provides the opportunity for students to succeed in a new challenge, enjoy the benefits of increased self-confidence and form new relationships, both within their peer group and the wider range of people they will meet whilst on the trip. It also offers a different cultural experience and the opportunity to develop a new awareness and sense of achievement. An example of some of the activities available to students are:
- Climbing
- Archery
- Jacobs Ladder
- Zip Wire
- Climbing
- Camp Fire
- Low Ropes
- Aero Ball
- Orienteering
The price per student is £465.00. Included in this price is:
- Return travel by coach
- A full programme of adventure activities
- Full board and accommodation
- Fully comprehensive insurance (details available on request)
The only additional cost will be pocket money, provided at parent/carer discretion.
We are fully aware of the impact recent rises in the cost of living have had on families, so we have broken down the payment schedule as follows:
- Instalment 3: £93 by 29th February 2024
- Instalment 4: £93 by 29th March 2024
- Instalment 5: £93 by 29th April 2024
- Instalment 5: £93 by 29th May 2024
- Instalment 5: £93 by 29th June 2024
This trip will operate on a first come, first served basis and failure to keep up with payments puts your child’s place on this trip at risk.
Any student who does not attend this trip will be expected to attend the Academy as usual during this week and they will have access to a range of other trips, visits and activities inside and outside of the Academy.
Parents/guardians of students who book the trip will be sent a follow-up letter detailing travel and packing arrangements, in addition to receiving an invitation to an information evening (to take place in Module 5), where they will meet with the teachers attending this residential trip.
Please do not hesitate to make contact with your child’s Small School if you wish to find out any further information regarding this trip or other cultural capital events.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs H. Panton
Assistant Principal, Deputy Head of Turing School
