Dear Parent/Carer
Open Events – September and October 2024
I am writing to inform you of our upcoming Open Events for Year 6 applicants to join the Academy from September 2025. We are all very excited to showcase the excellent practice within our Academy that takes place every day and visitors will have the opportunity to speak to staff and students about life at Leigh Academy Halley. Visitors can expect a tour of our site with students, visits to subject areas to learn more about the curriculum, and a talk from our Principal, Mr Ben Russell.
If you know of any families who would be interested in attending please share our arrangements for them to attend. Although traditionally aimed at families with children in Year 6, we welcome families with children in other year groups as we understand that consideration for options for secondary transfer may begin earlier.
Our Open Events are as follows:
- Open Evening – Thursday 26th September 5pm to 7.30pm (Principal’s Welcome Talk at 5.30pm and 6.30pm)*
- Open Mornings – Tuesday 1st October, Thursday 3rd October and Friday 4th October at 9.15am*
*Reservation for visits is not required.
We look forward to welcoming prospective applicants and families, sharing our successes with them, and our commitment to nurturing lifelong learners. Our recent GCSE and BTEC outcomes are a testament to this and a true reflection of what makes Leigh Academy Halley such a unique and exciting learning community, defined by hardworking students, committed staff, and strong home-school partnerships where our values of respect, collaboration, integrity and resilience underpin everything we do.
We could not be more delighted that the Academy has achieved the best GCSE results in its history. Over 80% of students achieved a good pass in their English qualifications, with over 70% achieving a grade 4 in mathematics. These results mean that Leigh Academy Halley remains one of the most improved secondary schools in England since joining Leigh Academies Trust in 2018. On several key performance indicators, our students are approaching or outperforming important national benchmarks. Of particular note, over a third of students achieved the prestigious English Baccalaureate qualification, significantly above the national average of 2019.
These results follow a hugely successful IB results day earlier in July, where our IBCP students outperformed international benchmarks, and our BTEC results day in August, where our results outperformed both the international and national averages.
Our successes can only happen with your support. Thank you for this and for all that you continue to do over the coming academic year for your child.
Yours faithfully
Karen Cronin | Deputy Principal
