Year 7 Admissions Process 2025

There are 180 places available in Year 7 at Leigh Academy Halley for September 2025. To apply for a place at Leigh Academy Halley, you must apply through your home Local Authority.

APPLY FOR A SECONDARY SCHOOL PLACE

All students applying to Leigh Academy Halley will be invited to sit a fair banding test to ensure that children across the full ability range are admitted. It is not possible to pass or fail the test, but those not sitting the test at all will only be prioritised after those children who have sat the test.  In order to be invited to the test, in addition to the local authority application form, an online supplementary form must be completed and submitted to us – if you do not have access to the internet a paper copy can be returned directly to the academy.  This must be done by the closing date of 31st October.

Consideration of Applications and Fair Banding Test

All applications for places will be considered. Where fewer applications are received than the agreed admissions number, the academy will offer places to all those who have applied.

All applicants will be invited to sit a fair banding test. It is not possible to pass or fail the test, but those not sitting the test at all, will only be prioritised after those children who have sat the test. The date of the test is Tuesday 8th October 2024. Parents wishing to apply for this academy should do so to the local authority in the usual way and register for the test by sending the supplementary form, available from the academy website, to the main office of the academy or via email, to be received at the academy by Friday 27th September.  Applicants who do not sit the test on 8th October will be offered an alternative date and time.  These applications will not receive details of the fair banding test results until after the 31 October application deadline to submit a secondary common application form (SCAF) to their home local authority.

In-Year Admissions

Applicants applying for a place at Leigh Academy Halley need to apply direct to the Academy.

The process regarding children admitted via Fair Access Panel will be in line with Greenwich Local Authority’s published arrangements.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form is an inclusive community to which the Academy welcomes applications from students from any background looking to study in a supportive and caring environment.

All potential applicants are invited to attend an Open Evening on Thursday 23rd November 2023.  An application form should be completed and submitted to the academy by February 2024. Applicants will be invited to discuss their curriculum choices with a senior member of staff to establish whether a suitable programme of study course is available to them. This discussion does not form part of the decision-making process on whether to offer a place.

An offer will be made on the condition that the applicant achieves the examination grades required for enrolment onto each of the courses which they have chosen (these can be found within the Sixth Form Prospectus).  Applicants with conditional offers will be invited to attend an orientation day in the summer term. Where applicants have achieved the required grades enrolment will take place in August following publication of the GCSE results.

Application forms will be available at the open evenings or can be downloaded below.  Students who wish to apply for Leigh Academy Halley Sixth Form should apply to the Academy directly.

Appeals

If you have not been offered a place following an in-year application, the law entitles you to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of the school and the Local Authority. In accordance with the 2022 School Admission Appeals Code Appeals, the admission authority and panels have elected for all admissions appeals to be held online.

If you wish to appeal, please use this link to complete your appeal online. Please do NOT use ANY other appeal form or send your form to your local authority. It is highly recommended that you download the explanatory booklet about appeals which you should read before you complete the appeal form.
